Jan Van der Vurst

Jan Van der Vurst is the driving force behind Buro Van der Vurst, which supports individuals and companies in achieving change processes. Jan offers help and inspiration to mobilise stakeholders for your projects, manage yourself as your key stakeholder, and bridge the gap between knowing and doing.
Jan has decades of experience as a trainer and consultant with Belgian and U.S. listed companies in over 30 countries. He has published 6 books on Influence, Stakeholder Management and Personal Leadership. Each has a solid scientific basis and was nourished by his own experience in the field. Jan studied social pedagogy at the Catholic University of Leuven and obtained his PhD at the University of Utrecht.

Kris De Schutter

Kris De Schutter is partner in and chairman of the Employment & Benefits practice group in Belgium. He has over 20 years all-round experience in collective and individual employment law, with a particular focus on transformation, especially from a holistic view linked to alternative (flexible) remuneration, restructurings and change processes.
He regularly assists and represents multinational companies with downsizing (including collective dismissals and closure). In this respect, Kris often represents employers in union negotiations. He was involved in many restructurings in transformation schemes to avoid bankruptcy or to ensure profitability. Provide the right solution for his clients is Kris' goal. Whenever dealing with a business issue he seeks for a pragmatic solution that helps one taking the hurdle. For that reason, his clients praise him.
In relation to incentive schemes, Kris a.o. assist clients by implementing employee flexible reward plans (being a trendsetter and having changed employment law in this respect) and in relation to the implementation of all kind of incentive schemes and share (option) plans, he has in depth experience in remuneration schemes in the financial, insurance and fund sector.
Assisting clients on recruitment and dismissals of top managers, in a national and international context, is Kris’ third key focus area.
Kris regularly speaks at conferences, such as Vlerick Business School, and is an author of several articles and opinions in newspapers on dismissals, restructurings, remuneration and flexible reward plans, strikes and other employment law topics.

Sphere-Work supervised, in an organisation-sensitive way, a merger process of 4 organisations. An important focus was on the involvement and participation of all stakeholders, not least the employees themselves. The quality of the change management expertise and the added value of these consultants 'on board' is beyond dispute.
Strategy, goals and actions were determined in a professional and quick manner. Among other things, a plan of action was drawn up (including timing), co-creative methodologies were put forward to support group processes and sessions were supervised, knowledge was brought in with regard to stakeholder management, a new job house, new decision-making principles and procedures, etc.
All 'deliverables' also met expectations, from the design of a new governance structure, to the preparation of analyses, reports and reports of workshops and meetings, to the drafting of a legal services agreement. There was also a continuous focus on communication about the different steps in the process to all parties.
Moreover, all this was given shape in a tight process direction, with clear decision-making moments for the governing body.
A merger process can only be successful if the 'why' is clear and inspiring. Sphere-Work proved to be the partner to support and strengthen this with knowledge, expertise and the necessary dose of flexibility.

My Way

For our transformation project, we brought in real facilitators with Sphere-Work. The Sphere-Work consultants listen, ask the right questions and challenge us when they discover inconsistencies in our approach. So they listen first and do not immediately propose solutions.
The fact that Sphere-Work listened carefully to us was also reflected, for example, in the fact that the workshop approach of the first management workshop was geared to the Good to Great concept I had put forward. Spot on!

Our story

In late 2021, Sphere-Work was founded from the deep belief that supporting change in companies can be done in a better way, more so, needs to be done in a better way. And for 2 reasons:

  • The world around us is constantly changing. Companies that stand still have no future. As an organisation, you have to commit to change.
  • The quality of consultancy on topics of change, HR and business organisation leaves a lot to be desired.

Both Bert and Christophe have more than 20 years of experience within HR. They have both literally stood with their feet in the mud: everything you can experience in terms of strategic HR, reorganisations & restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, social relations, remuneration, strategic scenario planning, performance culture, personnel costs & HR data, they have lived through.

Plenty of opportunity to experience first-hand how things should not be done, and how much of the existing consultancy services are often sub-standard: consultants who walk in with fancy models but have never implemented them themselves in a real work environment, who overwhelm an often already unstable organisation only to leave before the change has properly landed.
